Email list verification checks every address on your mailing list and flags invalid, risky, or duplicate contacts so you can remove them before sending. InboxAlly includes a built-in verification tool — upload a CSV, and it returns a cleaned list of valid addresses, reducing bounces and protecting your sender reputation.
InboxAlly also offers a free Email List Verification tool on inboxally.com with 99%+ accuracy.
How to verify your email list
1. Prepare your file
Save your email list as a .CSV file with one email address per row. Most ESPs and CRMs can export contacts in this format.
2. Upload and run verification
- Log in to the InboxAlly app and open the Email List Verification tool.
- Click Upload and select your CSV file.
- Start the verification process.
InboxAlly scans every address and categorizes it into one of several result types (see below). Processing time depends on list size — a list of 100,000 addresses typically takes less than 30 minutes.
3. Download and use the cleaned list
Once processing finishes, download the results. The output separates addresses into categories so you can decide what to keep:
| Category | What it means | Recommendation |
|---|---|---|
| Valid | Address exists and can receive mail | Send to these |
| Invalid | Address doesn’t exist, bad syntax, or dead domain | Remove immediately |
| Catch-all | Domain accepts all addresses — can’t confirm the specific mailbox exists | Send with caution; monitor bounces |
| Disposable | Temporary/throwaway address (e.g., Guerrilla Mail, Mailinator) | Remove — these go inactive quickly |
| Role-based | Generic address like info@, support@, admin@ | Remove or handle separately — high complaint risk |
| Spam trap | Address designed to catch senders with poor list hygiene | Remove immediately — hitting these damages reputation |
| Duplicate | Same address appears more than once in your list | Remove duplicates |
Best practice: Only send to Valid addresses. If you choose to keep catch-all addresses, watch your bounce rate closely after the first send and suppress any that bounce.
When to verify your list
- Before your first send with InboxAlly — start with a clean list to get the best results from seed emails.
- Before any major campaign — especially if the list has been sitting idle.
- After importing new contacts — purchased lists, event signups, and scraped lists are high-risk for invalid addresses and spam traps.
- On a regular schedule — quarterly verification is a good baseline. Monthly is better for large or fast-growing lists, since roughly 2-3% of email addresses go invalid every month due to job changes, abandoned accounts, and domain expirations.
Verification credits
Each list upload uses one verification credit, regardless of list size. Credits are renewed monthly based on your InboxAlly plan. Unused credits do not carry over to the next month.
Plan your verifications around your credit allocation — if you have multiple lists or segments, combine them into a single CSV to use one credit instead of several.
